About 15 bodies have been recovered in the aftermath of the Lagos, Nigeria, flood caused by the heavy downpour that pounded the metropolis last weekend. Many of the victims drowned because they could not distinguish between the roads and the drainage channels already covered by flood.
Properties worth hundreds of millions of naira were washed away by the flood, and more than 200 people have been displaced, yet the weather forecast has confirmed that Lagosians should expect more torrential rains in the coming months.
As people count their losses to the flood, traffic has become even more congested for the few roads left, including the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway due to diversion of traffic to one lane in the areas.
Areas worst hit are Onipepeiye, Amuloko, Ogbere, Omi Adio, Molete and Soka areas of the capital city.
