A 39-year-old delivery truck driver in South Africa, whose left leg was amputated in 1996 after a gunshot injury, has continued to drive using his son’s leg. The boy sits down next to his father who tells him when to press the clutch for gear changes anytime his father is driving.
Last weekend in Cape Town, the city’s traffic department arrested the father for expired learner’s permit – which was given to drive only automatic vehicles, a broken parking brake, broken seat belt, a truck license which expired two years ago.
He was fined 1,000 Rand ($122.00).
The Chief traffic inspector, Merle Lourens, said “He won’t be allowed to drive, but he shouldn’t have been driving in the first place.”
