A bomb that exploded directly behind the Shehu of Borno’s palace has left several people wounded. It happened in Maiduguri on Saturday evening. This is becoming almost an everyday occurrence in that city.
“Three soldiers have been injured in the bomb blast that occurred close to the Palace of the Shehu of Borno,” said Hassan Mohammed, an officer in the Joint Task Force, JTF. The Shehu is a traditional ruler in Borno state.
Witnesses at a local hospital said at least one body from the blast site had been brought to the mortuary.
Boko Haram sect is believed to be responsible. It has claimed responsibility for the repeated bombings and shootings in Borno. Their targets are mostly the police, churches and drinking spots.
The JTF have been accused of using indiscriminate force in retaliation to the attacks, leading to the deaths of civilians and the destruction of homes.
The heightened clashes between the JTF and Boko Haram forced thousands to flee Maiduguri earlier this month. The violence has killed more than 150 people in that city this year.
This has become a major security threat in the country, and the United States and European Union have condemned the violence.
