Nigeria and Spain both scored convincing goals during FIFA U20 World Cup action in Chile on Sunday.
In Group D action, Nigeria thrashed Guatemala 5-0 at the Under-20 World Cup on Sunday with Edafe Egbedi scoring twice. Egbedi struck in the eighth and 39th minutes.
Nigeria, one of the favorites at the tournament, piled it on after the break with Abdul Ajagun scoring in the 47th, Olarenwaju Kayode adding another in the 53rd and Ahmed Musa hitting the final goal in the 76th minute.
This is Nigeria’s eighth appearance in the tournament. The west African team is still searching for its first title. On Wednesday, Nigeria faces Croatia and Guatemala is up against Saudi Arabia.
In Group C action, Rodrigo Moreno scored twice, while Koke and Isco added the other goals as Spain beat Costa Rica 4-1 to also confirm its status as one of the early favorites at the tournament.
Moreno scored in the 14th minute of the opening Group C game and made it 2-0 in the 48th. John Ruiz pulled one back for Costa Rica in the 66th, before Koke scored in the 81st and Isco netted a penalty in second-half stoppage time.
Midfielder Sergio Canales, who has moved on loan to Valencia from Real Madrid, missed the match with a leg injury.
Spain faces Ecuador in its next match on Wednesday while group rivals Australia plays Costa Rica on the same day.
