The Managing Director of Megamound Nigeria Limited has urged the Federal Government to repair the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and save commuters from untimely deaths and sufferings due to frequent fatal accidents.
Otunba Olumide Osunsina made this plea at the inauguration of the new executives and fund raising of Ibadan Recreation Club.
He described the expressway as an eyesore. “As at today, lives are being unwarrantedly lost on that road, business activities are seriously hampered and it has become very strenuous to commute between Lagos and Ibadan,” he said.
Osunsina lamented that the state of the expressway has negatively affected the economy of Oyo State, because people who used to flood the state for business and social engagements, are no longer finding it attractive.
This is not the first time the Federal Government has been urged to fix the expressway. In March, road users in Lagos and Ogun States also called on the Federal Government to urgently fix the potholes that are fast becoming regular fixture on the expressway.
Osunsina therefore challenged the elites to support the government in providing infrastructure and other amenities. “All of us sitting here can do it, if we decide to do it, so let us all decide now to get it done to make life better for our people,” he said.
Osunsina added that “if that road is done, people can stay in Ibadan and work in Lagos. Investors from Lagos can also move into Ibadan to build houses and also invest in the economy, it will also boost trade within the South-West geo-political zone.”
