DR Congo Prison Attack – About 1000 Inmates Freed

Unidentified gunmen on Wednesday attacked a prison in the Democratic Republic of Congo, DR Congo, and freed over 960 inmates out of 1,500 prisoners that the prison has.

According to Xinhua, two people were also killed and two injured in the attack.

The attack was carried out in the morning on a prison in Katanga province, located in the south of the DR Congo, freeing 967 inmates, Xinhua quoted a provincial government minister as saying.

Jean-Marie Dikanga Kazadi, the interior minister and the spokesman of the provincial government, said 50 of the escaped prisoners had been arrested so far.
