Five men were killed on Thursday as two gun men stormed the Madalla market in Suleja, Niger State.
A trader in the market said the incident happened around 7pm when they were about to retire for the day, forcing them to flee in different directions.
According to an eye witness, “This man that was killed was with his sister packing their wares when two men appeared and ordered the man to recite the Koran; when he couldn’t, they shot him. They left the market and moved towards the road around Korom.”
Report says the second man had just left his wife to get some fuel for his generator when he was shot at close range.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Niger State, Mr. Ugwuche Richard confirmed the incident and said that the police were on the trail of the assassins.
Richard also quoted the DPO as saying, “At about 7.30 to 8pm yesterday, unknown men armed with guns attacked the Madalla Market area and shot five people to death. But before the police could get there, the hoodlums had fled the scene. The bodies of the victims have been deposited at the Suleja Hospital.”
