A 26 year-old prophet of the word of Jesus Christ Church, Kwame Sekyi, who was arrested last week for posing as a policeman, has been sentenced to a year’s imprisonment with hard labor by a Koforidua magistrate’s court.
According to report, Prophet Elisha, who got the uniform from a policeman friend he stays with, claimed that he had no money and so decided to put on the uniform to enable him persuade a driver to give him a lift to Kumasi.
In passing sentence, the presiding judge, Mrs. Priscilla Sophia Yeboah, said she wished to expose his falsehood “because God will never disgrace His prophet to the extent that He would put him in such a situation.”
She said she was being considerate because he was not that popular, and, therefore, sentenced him to a year’s jail term.
“Because he preaches the gospel, he should serve his term by preaching the gospel to the other inmates so that they would also be led to Christ,” she said.
Prophet Sekyi had pleaded guilty to the charge of impersonation and begged for leniency.
Also known as prophet Elisha, he explained that he was invited to pray for someone who was sick in Kumasi, and “because I did not have money, I put on the uniform to persuade a driver to give me a lift.”
