Babatunde Omidina, the veteran Yoruba comic actor known as Baba Suwe, was allegedly arrested by Nigerian immigration officers Wednesday at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, for being in possession of Cocaine.
The popular actor was on his way to Paris, France to attend a naming ceremony of an Air France staff scheduled for Saturday, October 15th, where he was supposed to be the master of ceremony.
The 53-year-old actor who lost his wife Monsuratu Omidina in September 2009, had been the subject of repeated rumors over illicit hard drugs, but he consistently and vehemently denied having anything to do with Cocaine and other banned substances.
He was allegedly nabbed last night while attempting to depart Lagos for Paris on a 10pm scheduled Air France flight AF3051.
Omidina is not the first Nigerian actor to be arrested for drug trafficking. In 2006 Yoruba Movie Actress, Wunmi Yetunde was also arrested by the NDLEA for cocaine possession, and in 2007, Nollywood actor, Tochi James was nabbed on his way to London for the same offense.
