At least 11 people, including a soldier and a police officer, were on Sunday killed in Bauchi and Tafawa Balewa local government areas of Bauchi State after multiple bomb explosions were detonated in the areas.
Report says the attacks were simultaneously carried out at Tafawa Balewa Police Station, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church and Evangelical Church Wining in Bauchi.
Bauchi State Police Commissioner, Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed the attacks. He said: “A Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP, was killed in a nearby hotel in the town”, but did not give details.
“An Army Lance Corporal was killed at the Bununu check point, eight civilians whose identities are yet to be known were also killed by the rampaging hoodlums.”
“At three o’clock in the morning, it was dark and nobody could say what happened at Ganjuwa. These hoodlums go about with their diggers and shovels and I cannot say whether they bury their dead immediately, but we caught one of them with bullet wounds.”
He said about five suspects have been captured by the combined team of army and police men who engaged the attackers in an exchange of gunfire. The commissioner stated that the security team recovered a number of assembled bombs as well as other weapons.
A family of five were also attacked and killed in their house in Tafawa Balewa yesterday at about 2:40 am.
Residents of the area debunked claims by the Police Commissioner that the hoodlums came to rob a bank, saying: “Nobody went near a bank. People were attacked in their houses”.
According to them, the family of five that was killed lived more than two kilometers away from the bank.
