Nigeria: Three-Storey Building Collapses In Abuja

A three-story property has on Saturday collapsed in Gwarinpa, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria trapping construction workers.

It occurred within Naval Quarters in Gwarinpa with construction workers trapped beneath the rubbles.

Two people have been confirmed dead while five people were critically injured and taken to an undisclosed hospital.

The Head of Public Relations of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Yushua Shuaibu, gave the casualty figure.

Shuaibu said: “Seven people were trapped, one was dead, four were rescued, one was critically injured and one is still trapped.”

Giving details of how the building collapsed, he said the workers were on the different floors of the building doing the manual demolition when it collapsed.

He added that the building went down when workers at the ground floor had advanced with their part of the work.
