Nigeria: Wife Of New IG Of Police Dies

The Nigeria Police on Monday announced the death of Maryam Abubakar, the wife of the acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.

She died on Monday morning, after a brief illness at a hospital in Kano and has been buried Monday afternoon according to Islamic rites.

Maryam Abubakar, aged 48, was survived by her husband and three children.

In a condolence message to the IGP, issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, President Goodluck Jonathan described Mariam’s death as “sad, painful and untimely,” especially at this time that her husband needed her moral and emotional support as he confronted the challenge of ensuring national security in his new post.

The president, on behalf of the Federal Government, prayed the almighty Allah to grant the soul of Hajia Mariam eternal rest and grant her husband and the family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss.
