James Iroha, a.k.a. Gringory Dies At 70

Mr. James Iroha O.O.N (a.k.a. Gringory), comic actor and prominent member of the now rested sitcom, New Masquerade which ruled the nation’s airwaves in the 1980s, is dead.

National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Mr. Segun Arinze confirmed the development to newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday.

Iroha who retired from the services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) in December 2011 was a native of Amokwe Item of Abia State and a key member of the soap that later became immensely popular in the 1970s and 1980s.

With his death, Iroha joins the growing list of cast members of sitcom who have departed the world for the great beyond with the likes of the late Christy Essien Igbokwe (who starred as Apena), Claude Eke (who played Jegede Sokoya).

Arinze who said he spoke to Uche, one of the children of the deceased actor, said Iroha died of undisclosed ailment early Tuesday Morning in Enugu.
