Northern Governors Storm Kaduna Over Boko Haram And Derivation – Saharareporters

The 19 Northern Nigerian Governors today converged in Kaduna, capital of the defunct Northern Nigerian region.

The Northern Governor’s Forum, led by its chairman, Niger State Governor, Mua’azu Babangida Aliyu will be discussing on Boko Haram, and the endless insecurity issues ravaging the north.

The governors, a source said, will be coming out with a common position on the Boko Haram insurgency.

Other main issues are the derivation of federation resources, which the governors have publicly claimed that the north is shortchanged and marginalized.

The New Nigerian Newspapers established by Sir Ahmadu Bello in January 1966 two weeks before he was killed in January 15th, 1966 military coup was closed down for almost one month following the strike by its workers over non-payment of salaries and other emoluments by the 19 northern state governors.

Critics of the governors have accused them of doing nothing to sustain the legacies of Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sakwato.
Today’s meeting has attracted unusually tight security in Kaduna because of the meeting which was last held in 2010. The governors have been meeting in Abuja owing to instability in the north.
