PICTURES & VIDEO: Mercy Chinwo Wins Nigerian Idol II

Finally, Nigerian Idol II, a reality TV show which connected with Nigerian youths by giving them a platform to showcase their singing talents, has come to an end.

After beating thousands of musical talents across the country in the six-months long show, Chinwo Nnenda, better known as Mercy, emerged winner.

Mercy defeated fellow contestant, Joe Blue, at the grand finale of the show held at the Dream Studio, Lagos.

The finale kicked off with hosts, Ill Ryhmz and Tiwa Savage calling the 12 finalists on stage to render the National Anthem. This was followed by a performance from Wizkid, W4 and Chuddy K.

Mercy began her round of performances with an emotionally charged version of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Look to You’, before she put on her dancing shoes for a superbly choreographed and vocally powerful performance of Amerie’s ‘One Thing’. She also sang a remixed version of P-Square’s “Chop My Money”, zooming in on a power bike for that number.

Mercy goes home with a whooping star prize of a recording contract, an SUV Jeep and prize money of N7.5 million.

Here is a song by Joe Blue, the finalist:

She had worked so hard to earn this and remember it is not the judges that determines the winner but the amount of vote each of them gets from the public, so u come dey vex na? i wonder if you even voted for the person you are actually fighting for, probably your vote would have made a difference. Well done Mercy i have always known that u’ll win it hurts me deeply that i never had the chance to watch your last performance. i saw it in the newspaper this morning and i was very excited, congratulations. Also, Joe Blue is an exceptional singer too and i also wished he wins but only one winner must emerge please Mercy it wont be a bad idea if you give at least a token to him, well done Joe Blue.
