He died of a massive heart attack at about 10:30pm on Tuesday.
He was rushed to Silver Spring Hospital, where doctors battled for a few hours to save his life.
Report says his remains was then taken to the National Hospital at about 1:30am.
He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
Bafyau joined the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at its inception in 1998 and made an unsuccessful bid for senatorial and gubernatorial contests in Adamawa state.
In 1989, Pascal Bafyau, led the NLC to form the Nigerian Labour Party.
He would have emerged as the presidential running mate of late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola until Alhaji Babagana Kingibe was chosen.
