Curfew Imposed on Plateau State Over Massive Violence

Governor Jonah Jang The Plateau state government has placed a curfew on parts of Plateau State as a result of the massive violence of the past 24 hours.

The parts include four local government: Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom.

Following Saturday’s massacre of about 23 people by unidentified gunmen, Senator Gyang Dalyop Dantong, and Plateau State Asemblyman Gyang Fulani were today killed along with many others at a funeral for yesterday’s victims. A House of Representatives member Simon Davou Mwadkwon was critically injured.

The men were killed by Fulani herdsmen on Sunday afternoon in Matse, Riyom, while attending the mass burial of the persons killed by the same Fulani herdsmen.

According to a short statement by the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Yiljap Abraham, the curfew commences immediately.

The statement reads: “In view of the prevailing security situation, the Governor of Plateau State, Dr. Jonah Jang, hereby imposes curfew in the following areas: Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs with immediate effect. The curfew has started from 7.30pm today to 7.00 tomorrow morning, while the curfew starts again 6pm tomorrow to 7AM daily till further notice.”
