Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali has been appointed the vice chancellor-designate of the University of Ilorin. He takes over from the incumbent Vice Chanccellor, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede whose five-year term expires on October 15, 2012.
This was announced on Thursday by the Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mrs. Olufolake Oyeyemi after a special senate meeting held at the council chambers of the University.
The Registrar said, “At a special meeting held on Wednesday 25th July 2012, the University council received the report of the council/senate selection board.
“The board had been set up to access and recommend to the council, suitable candidates for the position of the vice chancellor which will become vacant at the expiration of the tenure of the current vice chancellor, Professor Ishaq Oloyede on October 15, 2012.
“Having carefully considered the recommendations and guided by the provisions of relevant extant laws, the council expressed satisfaction in the procedure adopted which followed the due process.
“Consequently, in compliance with the extant laws governing the appointment of Vice chancellor, the council approved the appointment of Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali with effect from October 16, 2012”.
Professor Ambali is a professor of veterinary medicine and acting dean of faculty of veterinary medicine of the University of Ilorin.
He is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria
Professor Ambali was born on November 29 1957, he is married with children.
Meanwhile, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has felicitated with the Governing Council and management staff of the University of Ilorin for embarking on a true democratic process which led to the appointment of Professor AbdulGaniyu Hambali as the new Vice Chancellor for the institution.
The governor in his goodwill message signed by his chief press secretary, Alhaji Abdulwahaab Oba, said “there is no doubt that if democratic process can thrive in the appointment of leaders in a micro environment such as the University, I’m confident that the macro political environment in the country will soon become an epitome of political tolerance and democratic ethos, setting the pace for other nations of the world.
Congratulating the newly appointed VC, Governor Ahmed described him as a competent hand and mature mind who will not only sustain the good legacy of the institution, but also improve on the qualities which has made the institution ‘better by far’ Citadel of learning across the world.
“However, as a centre of learning and research, I urged incoming leadership of the University of Ilorin to sustain the current efforts at ensuring peace in the institution and raising the standards of both students and staff in other to commensurate with the demands of globalization”, the governor advised.
Governor Ahmed stressed the need for the new VC to also sustain the current harmonious relationship between the University and the host community and urged his co-contestants to join hands with the in-coming VC so as to consolidate the successes of building a promising future for the University.
“We, as a government, shall continue to support the institution which has not only been serving as a leading centre of learning but as an environment which has situated Kwara State, and indeed Nigeria, on a strategic position on the global map of the league of Universities”, he promised.
Governor Abdulfatah congratulated the out-going VC, Professor Ishaq Olarewaju Oloyede for an eventful and successful tenure. “Oloyede”, the governor said would be remembered for his resourcefulness, astute leadership quality, unprecedented infrastructural development of the school, discipline, humility and above all, academic excellence”.
The governor prayed God to give the new VC the wisdom to pilot the affairs of the university to a new height.

Also, The Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly Barrister Razak Atunwa described the appointment of Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali as the new vice chancellor of university of Ilorin by the institution’s Governing council as apt in the bid at making the university a world class.
Barrister Atunwa made this observation while reacting to the appointment of Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali as the new vice chancellor of the university.
Barrister Atunwa in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media AbdulRahman Sanni expressed confidence that the new vice chancellor would put his vast experience to bear in the task of building the ivory tower to world class standard.
He noted with delight that the University had achieved great feet in Scholarship and lauded the institution’s governing council over’ the transparent process which culminated in the selection of the new helmsman of the University.
The Speaker who enjoined other contestants to join hands with the new vice chancellor in moving the University to a greater height, noted that the appointee had made significant contribution in the field of veterinary medicine.
Professor Ambali who is the pioneer dean of faculty of veterinary medicine of the University had his first degree in Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in veterinary medicine in 1981, master’s and Doctorate Degrees in University of Liverpool in 1984 and 1988 respectively.
He was also former Dean Faculty of Veterinary Medicine University of Maiduguri.
