THE Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said it launched the new Lagos Road Traffic Law to enhance traffic management and return sanity to the Lagos roads.
Lagos FRSC Sector Commander, Charles Akpabio, who has just been posted to Lagos, said the FRSC had begun sensitisation campaign to educate motorists on the law.
“It’s not meant to punish anybody, but to bring back sanity to the road. Lagos is very much important to Nigeria and is home to a lot of tourists and the new law has come at the right time.”
We are prepared to partner with the state in that regard,” he said.
Akpabio announced that the Lagos FRSC Command would henceforth ensure that only certified drivers are issued Driver’s Licence, stressing that it will no longer be business as usual for those without any driving experience getting licence from the comfort of their homes.
Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola said he signed the Road Traffic Law for the safety and benefit of Lagosians rather than send offenders to jail.
