Elisha Mazimbiye (32) who worked at Jersey Tea Estate in Chipinge, allegedly had a heated exchange with his wife Diana Sithole over the $1 he borrowed from her.
Mazimbiye had failed to pay back the money, triggering a heated argument after which he opted to commit suicide. Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Encok Chishiri confirmed the incident and urged the public to find amicable ways of resolving disputes.
“Circumstances in the matter are that Mazimbiye failed to pay the money he owed his wife. The two had a heated exchange of words and after moments of quarrelling, the husband took a long cloth from his bedroom without anyone noticing and proceeded to a bushy area where he hung himself from a mango tree branch,” Chishiri said.
Mazimbiye’s wife became suspicious after she failed to locate him and teamed up with other villagers to conduct a search. After the search, they found his lifeless body hanging from a mango tree branch and made a police report.
“We are urging members of the public to desist from such conduct because suicide does not solve anything, rather people should find amicable ways of solving domestic disputes,” Chishiri said. Newsday
