UPDATE 2: A lone suicide bomber driving an Opel Vectra rammed into the gates of St. John’s Catholic Cathedral in the Batyan Gari area of Bauchi, instantly killing at least 6 persons. 50 people were also injured from the attack.
UPDATE 1: The blast appeared to hit a parking lot alongside the St. John’s Catholic Church in the city.
Police and military surrounded the church and did not allow journalists inside the cordon.
Yushau Shuaib, a spokesman for Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency, said a suicide bomber targeted the church.
“Rescuers have evacuated the dead and injured,” Shuaib told The AP.
Explosion has on Sunday morning hit St John’s Catholic Cathedral in Bauchi reportedly killing several christian worshippers.
The explosion was heard after 9a.m. during an early morning mass.
Report says the church is close to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU).
The explosion reportedly occurred on Murtala Mohammed way across from the Bauchi Township stadium in the Bayan Gari area of the township.
Details about the explosion remains sketchy as at the time of publishing this report.
