Timi Julius, a 22 year old indigene of Bayelsa State emerged the winner of the star prize of a N5million record deal

In an unprecedented display of talent, Timi Julius, a 22 year old indigene of Bayelsa State emerged the winner of the star prize of a N5million record deal at the 1st edition of the Rivers Music and Arts Project (RIVMAP) whose grand finale was held at the Silverbird Cinemas, Port Harcourt on 26 September 2012. The RIVMAP is the brainchild of Prince Tonye Princewill, Leader of the Princewill Political Associates (PPA) to serve as a platform for the emancipation of our youths from poverty and hopelessness by discovering, nurturing and grooming talent in the arts to stardom.

The RIVMAP which is split into Music, Comedy and Dancing segments saw champions emerging in the various segments in a highly competitive final that gave the Judges that includes Prince Tonye Princewill, Mr. Adonijah Owiriwa of the Adonis Production, Mr. Daniel D’ Humorous and Eldee of Rhythm 93.7FM and Ejike Okoroafor of the New Dawn Productions, a herculean task in determining the eventual winners.

According to Tamunoiminabo Wokoma of TamsRecords, a label based in Marseille, France who collaborated with the Riverdrill Group owned by Prince Tonye Princewill to stage the project, “the RIVMAP started as a project under the PTP Star Center aimed at searching for raw talents and grooming them to stardom in singing, dancing and standup comedy. This edition that has consumed over N20m commenced in May 2012 with over one thousand youths who after several months of audition and screening was pruned down to a reasonable size of 28 singers, 10 comedians and 4 dancing groups which was later trimmed down to four comedians, three dancing troupes and six musicians for the finals after intensive three weeks camping and training”. He further thanked the Prince for being so kind to the youths by embarking upon such gigantic venture and urged him not to relent as the people will always be there for him in his time of need.

Prince Tonye Princewill the sponsor of the event stated that the program will be an annual event designed to take youths residing in Rivers State that may not have the opportunity to be promoted to rub shoulders with the best in the entertainment world as he intends to promote the champions in each segment to USA and Europe to have the best exposure in their respective industry with hope that they will become some of the best performing in the world.

According to the Judges, Mr. Timi Julius carted away the N5M Record Deal in Music with the Dancing group of the Thrillers winning the N2M Prize in the Dancing Group and Mr. Jacob John a Welder/Fabricator based in Port Harcourt from Akwa Ibom winning the N1M meant for the Comedy group.

The lucky winners prayed and thanked God for giving the type of Prince Tonye Princewill to the society and urged other well placed Nigerians to emulate him and come to the aid of Nigerian youths by engaging them in meaningful and productive venture and arrest the high level of unemployment and crime amongst the youths in Nigeria.

Prince Tonye Princewill Star Centre RIVMAP A SCAM!

Winners of the just concluded RIVMAP Talent Hunt competition are complaining bitterly about how they were used for several Months and after declaring them winners were never paid their full sum, sources close to the winners revealed that these winners were given peanuts as against what was promised as their winning sum, winning sum ranging from 1Million Comedy Endorsement Deal, 2Million Naira for Dancers and a whooping 5million naira International record contract.

Information reaching me was that a group made up of six dancers was given a hundred thousand naira each after days of lamenting, making a total sum of six hundred thousand naira only, with an outstanding 1.4million remains.

The comedian has refused to give information on how much he was given, though he is still complaining that he has not been paid in full up till the time of posting these information, also complaining that he has been reaching out to one Mr. Tams, CEO Tams Record who as was assigned to head the project, about when his money will be paid in full but instead he doesn’t say anything reasonable.

Contracts were handed out to these winners to sign, I was able to get a close look at some of the papers and found out that the contract for both dancers and Comedians will last for two years. Excluding the singer as he was asked to sign a 4year Record Contract at which period he is expected to release three albums. The record contract was suppose to be an International Record Deal instead Tams Record is handling the Musical project in his home studio here in Nigeria, I wonder what makes it international.

The winner for the Music category Mr. Timi Julius still walks on the street and pays his transport to the recording studio out of the 200,000.00 he was given as pocket money. According to close contacts he was promised a car and a place to live, but he still lives with his parents and still walks on foot. Also the winner laments that each time he reminds them of their promises he is threatened that if he continues to pressure he will have to refund the money that he has been given and then dropped from the record Label.

What’s the point, why surfer this young people promising them things that can’t be done for them, instead of allowing them to surfer through auditions for months over things they won’t get, why not employ them in places where they can work and then pay them. Some of them had to quit their jobs and focused on the competition hoping that it will change their lives, and also sleepless nights of rehearsal, what a punishment for these young people.

I suspect that the RIVMAP is for political reasons and a sham!
