With his private life under constant scrutiny, Tsvangirai is now wary of having CIO operatives around him. It is said that Tsvangirai initially sought Cabinet authority to travel to Nigeria with his wife and daughter, Rumbidzai. But he left before the trip was given the go ahead. His trip is said to be bankrolled by the wealthy governor of Imo state Chief Rochas Okorocha.
Rumbidzai is believed to be visiting Nigerian prophet TB Joshua while the Premier’s new wife is reported to be consulting the same prophet following the chaos that led to her failure to wed Mr Tsvangirai. But TB Joshua’s church has denied Tsvangirai paid them a visit, calling the claims lies.
Tsvangirai did have a brief meeting with Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan. The government press is saying that it would be inconcievable for Elizabeth to leave Nigeria without seeing TB Joshua, at least in private.
The Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka, said his boss’ trip to Nigeria did not need to be sanctioned since he had executive powers.
Tamborinyoka said Tsvangirai had the same executive powers as the President, adding that no one should decide where he wants to go and determine whom he should travel with.
