A stray bullet from police assigned to the Development Control Department of Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, killed a 20 year old sales girl Friday during demolition exercise.

The girl was hit on her chest when a stray bullet pierced through the wall of a photo shop where she worked as sales girl penetrating straight into her heart during the demolition exercise carried out by the development control around NEPA junction in Apo, Abuja yesterday.

The stray bullet, according Saturday Vanguard investigations revealed that residents, mostly indigenes resisted the exercise as they felt government had no right to demolish the area when they were yet to be properly resettled.

This forced the police to shoot in air in order to scare the indigenes away but unfortunately, one of the bullets strayed and killed the girl who was identified as Lucy. Saturday Vanguard learnt that there was a reinforcement for the officers and in less than five minutes after their arrival, shootings ensued with residents scampering for safety.

The residents also claimed the case was still in court and that their leaders have advised them not to relocate pending the outcome of the case.

Speaking to newsmen on the development at the hospital where Lucy was confirmed dead, the Chief Superintendent of Police Operations of the FCT Police Command, Gabriel Inalegwu stated that the force has already commenced investigation into the matter.
