According to a statement issued by JTF spokesman in Borno State, Colonel Sagir Musa, the radical Boko Haram sect has threatened to launch attack during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The statement reads: “information available to the JTF indicates that the Boko Haram terrorists are planning massive attacks on military and civilian targets in Borno State before, during and after the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir period.
“Subsequently, the terrorist group has invited foreign mercenaries to assist them in launching the attacks.”
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Thursday and Friday as public holidays to mark the 2012 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, made the announcement in a statement by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Daniel Nwaobia, in Abuja.
Moro called on Nigerians to imbibe and emulate the worthy tenets of Islam, as practised by Prophet Muhammad, while he enjoined citizens to use the occasion to pray for peace and prosperity of the nation.
