Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama visited the scene of the collapse and also the hospital to console the victims.
President Mahama has also suspended his campaign for the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections and ordered a probe into the collapse.
The President who was on his way to Bolgatanga in the Upper East region immediately suspended his campaign after news of the tragedy got to him.
According to a military statement, 69 people have been found alive in the rubble so far.
The president ordered the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to promote to the next rank a police officer who got injured while helping to rescue people trapped in Wednesday’s Melcom shop disaster.
Isreali rescuers also arrived in Ghana to support local efforts.
