Saraki’s Death: Kwara declares work free day, 3 days of mourning

The Kwara State Governor has declared today, Wednesday, 14th November, 2012 a work free day and three days of mourning, to allow Kwarans attend the burial of late Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

A 20 man committee has been set up on the burial of His Eminence, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

The committee is headed by Alhaji Saka Onimago. Other members are Barrister Anthony Towoju, Alhaji Kayode Issa, Alhaji Tajudeen Oloje, Alhaji Yekeen Ilobu, Alhaji Sule Maja, Prince Yemi Afolayan, Alhaji Ali Olola, Alh Lekan Alabi, Alhaji Mohammed Saraki and Alh Ope Saraki. Others are Alhaja Muslimat Ibrahim, Hon. Ganiyu Abdulkareem, Hon. Adamu Sabi, Hon. Mrs Owolabi, Alhaji Issa Hajia Nimota, Dr. Muyideen Akorede, Alhaji Wahab Oba and Alhaji Abdulsalam Suleiman. Alh. M. A Shehu is the secretary of the committee.

The governor urged community, religious and political leaders to troop out en masse to receive the remains of this illustrious son and Nigeria’s political icon later today at the Ilorin International Airport. The Janazah prayer for the former senate leader will hold at the Yidi praying ground, Ilorin at 4:00pm today.

Scores of residents had trooped to the GRA residence of the late politician as news of the death filtered into the state capital.

Government officials, however, kept sealed lips on the death of Saraki while many top public officers were sighted at the Government House and the residence of the deceased discussing in groups.

The state-owned radio station, Radio Kwara, suspended all regular programmes in honour of the late Waziri of Ilorin.

In its place, the station was playing different sound tracks eulogising the life and times of the late politician.
