Nigerian minister of Information, Labaran Maku during his ‘Good Governance Tour’, stated that the media is paying too much attention to Boko Haram group that has killed thousands of people since the group surfaced. He listed other things the media could focus on, including the ongoing train constructions and weddings. These are his words:
“I’m talking to the press, everyday Boko Haram, everyday Boko Haram, I say let’s report development. Even in war, and we’re not in war, work is going on, marriages are taking place, farming is taking place. So I hope that as we continue on this job of seeing what President Goodluck Jonathan is doing, to give Nigeria a new look, to lessen the burden of Nigerians, you can see the transformation train is firmly on track.
If you look at the huge construction that is going on here in Abuja, the Abuja light rail, this is just one small project, because if you look at what the ministry of transportation is doing and we’re going to be seeing that, you will see that a lot of work is going on across the country.”
The Abuja train construction allegedly began in 2006, it is still under construction. The project is expected to cost $2 billion. We compared the trains with those in other parts of the world, here are some pictures:
