Irate youths went on rampage on Thursday morning reportedly setting several houses and shops on fire in Bichi, a town outside Kano metropolis in Kano state.

According to eyewitnesses, trouble started when an Igbo tailor, simply called Chibuike, wrongly pronounced the Hausa name for a popular outfit. The story was reportedly spread by some who heard him, saying that he had blasphemed, which led to the violence.

The Joint Task Force, JTF, has dispatched vehicles to the area.

Most residents have been forced indoors by tear gas which the security agents have been firing.

No reports of casualty yet.
