Jonathan calls on US to help tackle Boko Haram

Nigeria on Tuesday appealed to the United States to assist it in tackling the spate of violence occasioned by the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram and other security breaches bedevilling the nation.

President Jonathan listed the security challenges, apart from Boko Haram, such as the problems of policing the nation’s extensive maritime borders, crude oil theft and kidnapping.

Jonathan made the call while commending the world super power on their role in ensuring global peace and security in a statement signed by the Presidential Assistant on Media and Publicity, Musa Aduwak.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati indicated that Jonathan expressed concern over the preponderance of violence orchestrated and unleashed on parts of the country by the Islamic sect.

Jonathan commended the United States of America for its role in global peace and security.

‘We appreciate the commitment of the United States to assist in ensuring that the world is safe and secure,’ he stated.
