A CHINESE knife maniac slashed 23 young children in a bloody rampage cops believe was sparked by this Friday’s Mayan doomsday prophesies.
Police arrested a man today after the attacks at the elementary school in Central China’s Henan province on Friday – the same day gunman Adam Lanza killed 20 kids in the US.
Cops said that Min Yongjun burst into an elderly woman’s home around 7am on Friday, hitting her and stabbing her with a kitchen knife.
He then rushed into the school knifing 23 students before being subdued by teachers and police.
The Xinhua state news agency reported: “Initial police investigation found Min, a long-term epilepsy sufferer, had been strongly psychologically affected by rumours of the upcoming end of the world predicted by ancient prophecy.”
Now Chinese authorities have detained up to 93 people who are accused of spreading Mayan doomsday rumours.
Xinhua wrote: “The 93 people, from seven provinces, include members of the banned ‘Almighty God’ cult, detained for handing out leaflets about the apocalypse and spreading rumours”.
“These cult members recently latched on to the Mayan doomsday scenario to predict the sun will not shine and electricity will not work for three days beginning on December 21.”
The apocalyptic prophecy is based on an interpretation of the ancient 5,125 year-old Mayan calendar that is set to end this Friday.
