New Year tragedy: 60 die, 200 injured in Ivory Coast

 Location of Abidjan in Ivory Coast At least 60 people have been killed, 200 injured in stadium stampede during new year festivities in Abidjan, the economic and former official capital of Ivory Coast, an emergency official and state radio said on Tuesday.

According to the head of military rescue workers, Lieutenant Colonel Issa Sako, “60 people” died and 200 were injured based on a preliminary toll. Another rescue official said told AFP the toll is “61 dead and 48 injured.”

The incident happened near Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium where a crowd had gathered to watch fireworks.
