Man in trouble for claiming to be an employee of the Office of the President

Verdict Kenya – The Office of the President has disowned a man who presented himself to police as its employee, standard digital reports.

Police yesterday produced a letter in court from the Office of the President indicating that Stanley Mwashumbe is not a Senior Principal Administrative Secretary as he claims.

Makindu OCPD Joseph Omijah produced the letter before High Court Judge David Majanja.

“We have received a letter from the Office of the President saying that there is no such employee,” said Mr Omijah.

Justice Majanja had on Monday summoned Omijah to appear before him and explain why Mwashumbe’s security pass and identification card was being detained by the police.

Mwashumbe had filed an application accusing police of detaining his identification documents without any reason after charging him at a Makindu court with a traffic offence on December 28. The police officer told the court the documents were detained because the police suspected that they were not genuine.

Mwashumbe had told the police when he was arrested that he was a senior officer at the Office of the President.

Omijah said the accused was released after paying a fine and told to appear again at the police station last Friday, but he did not turn up.

When the case was mentioned yesterday, the accused’s lawyer said Mwashumbe was involved in a road accident and he required more time to reach him.

The case was adjourned to Friday and the judge directed Omijah to file an affidavit giving reasons as to why the documents are being detained.
