Beyonce on Thursday admitted that she sang along to a pre-recorded track when she performed the national anthem on Inauguration Day. The singer held a press conference in New Orleans days ahead of her half-time performance at the Super Bowl.
She said: “I am a “perfectionist” and one thing about me – I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra. Due to no proper sound check, I did not feel comfortable taking a risk. It was about the president and the inauguration, and I wanted to make him and my country proud, so I decided to sing along with my pre-recorded track, which is very common in the music industry. And I’m very proud of my performance.”
Congressional Republicans had called on President Obama to acknowledge that the pop singer Beyoncé lip-synched during his inaugural festivities and to resign from office, effective immediately.
According to Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), “By lip-synching the national anthem, Beyoncé has cast a dark cloud over the President’s second term. The only way President Obama can remove that cloud is by resigning from office at once.”
