Don’t play politics with Offa/Erin-Ile crisis – PDP tells Opposition

PDP PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) in Offa local government area of Kwara state has urged politicians in the state, particularly members of the opposition not to play politics with the recent communal crisis in Offa and Erin Ile communities.

In a statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the party, Alhaji Goke Rabiu and Alhaji Lasun Olarinoye, respectively, the PDP said the recent communal clash deserve a painstaking diagnosis for a far-reaching and lasting solution.

The party insisted that there was no selective justice in the state government’s decision to suspend Offa and Oyun local government councils, adding that both council chairmen of Offa and Oyun “who are of different political background but who could not control the major motor parks under their jurisdiction were both affected in the case”.

The ACN national publicity secretary had in a statement on Monday faulted the dissolution of the councils and urged the state government to rescind its decision.

The Offa chapter of the PDP, which expressed support for the government’s action, said that a grievous situation leading to the loss of innocent lives and wanton destruction of property would demand a decisive and far-reaching measure to curtail it.

“A responsible political party would not play partisan politics with the lives of innocent citizens of a local government area it claim to be governing. The fact is that the two chairmen were simply short of expectations in their responsibilities”, it said.

It however called on the justice Oyinloye led judicial commission of enquiry to get to the root of the crisis and recommend a lasting, permanent and acceptable solution to the communal strife.
