FG orders prosecution of Maina, declares him AWOL

Abdulrasheed Maina The Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation has ordered disciplinary action against Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina, saying specifically that “section 030402 of the Federal Government’s Public Service Rules lists Absence from Duty without Leave as an act of Serious Misconduct punishable by dismissal”.

The HOS, Alhaji Isa Bello Sali, according to a terse statement by the Director in his Office, Mr. Tope Ajakaiye, specifically stated that following the inability of the Inspector-General of Police, the PRTT chairman “has absconded from duty without leave.”

He said, “The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Isa Bello Sali has directed the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, a Deputy Director in the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pensions Office, an agency under the Ministry.

“In his directive to the Permanent Secretary, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation said that following the submission of a report from the Inspector-General of Police to Mr. President of the inability of the Nigeria Police to locate the officer, it has become apparent that he has absconded from duty without leave, an action which, he said, carries severe penalty in line with Public Service Rules No. 030301 to 030304.”

“President Jonathan directed the Head of Service to act expeditiously on the disciplinary proceedings against Alhaji Maina and report back to him on actions taken”.

Jonathan had on Thursday stated through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati that he was not shielding Maina and cautioned, however, that laid down civil service rule and procedure should determine Maina’s fate.
