Gunmen attack church crusade in Jos

At least nine people were injured after unknown gunmen on Tuesday night attacked an evening church crusade in Jos South Local Government Area of the state.

Those injured are now receiving treatment at the Plateau Specialist Hospital.

John Clark Dabwan, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, escaped death by the whiskers when the gun men attacked the crusade at Christian Rural Urban Development Association (CRUDAN) in Jos South Local Council.

According to eyewitnesses, who pleaded anonymity, the gunmen entered into the centre, wielding their dangerous weapons and demanding the whereabouts of the Speaker.

It was alleged that Dabwan drove into the premises and shortly, the attackers came demanding his head. They shot into the crowd of worshippers, injuring them in the process. It was not known if the attackers were armed robbers as is being claimed by government officials or they were kidnappers.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told journalists that “we noticed that all was not well when we spotted the men who demanded where the Speaker was in a loud voice. Some of us were not aware that the Speaker was there and I think he sensed trouble so he drove out quickly before anyone could identify him.”

It took the timely arrival of members of the Special Task Force (STF) to scare the attackers away.
