Cultists on rampage in Nigerian city killing 3, injuring 5

CULTISTS went on rampage in different parts of Ilorin on Monday, killing at least about three persons while five persons sustained severed injuries.

The incidents according to The Graphic occurred mainly around Adewole, Gambari, Aduralere, Mubo and Maraba areas of Ilorin among others.

The incidents was said to have started late last Friday night at one drinking joint in Mubo street with the killing of a middle age man working in a barbing saloon at lajoorin street who was reportedly macheted to death.

This incident led to reprisal attack with another killing at Gambari and Adewole areas.

Also on Tuesday a five-man gang believed to be cultists reportedly chased a rival gang member to Ipata area of Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state.

The Graphic also gathered that the pandemonium broke out around 8: 00 am prompting many residents to run for dear lives.

The incidence created panic within the densely crowded Ipata market in the interior part of the state capital as the cultists shot
sporadically into the airs while chasing their target who was eventually captured, shot to death and macheted.

The victim, 30, was popularly known as Gani, was shot at neck around 9: 00 am by his attackers who were said to be fully armed and brandishing all forms of dangerous weapons.

A source who witnessed the gory scene said the victim who lived at Aduralere was chased from his vicinity to Ipata area where he was gruesomely murdered.

The Graphic also gathered that the body of the victim soaked with blood was evacuated by some mobile policemen who were swiftly drafted to the scene to bring the situation under control.

Contacted, the police spokesman ASP Femi Fabode who confirmed cultists attack in Aduralere area alone said two persons have been arrested while investigations were on to fish out other suspects.

“I’m only aware of the incident at Aduralere, two persons have been arrested so far and we are still investigating,” he said.
