UPDATE: The attack occurred at about 4.30 pm and was targeted at a Lagos-bound 59-seater luxury bus, which was blown up as it was departing the park.
Three suicide bombers positioned their Golf car, which had been primed with explosives, between Gobison Luxury Bus and one other before detonating the explosives.
Besides the wrecked Gobison bus, 10 others were affected.
According to National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) spokesman Yushau Shuaib, “Rescuers and security personnel are yet to determine the source of explosions that occurred this evening at a motor park for long journeys in New Road, Sabo Gari. While casualty figure is not available at the moment, the seriously injured have been taken to the hospital and bodies evacuated.”
JTF spokesman Captain Ikedichi Iweha, said it would be hasty to release a casualty figure, adding that “our interest now is to ensure that the injured are taken to the hospital for treatment while efforts are being made by fire fighters to extinguish the raging flames in the park.
“We are also making efforts to prevent thieves from taking advantage of the situation to steal.”
Military and police cordoned off the area after the blasts.
No group has claimed responsibility for the blasts yet.
