Kidnapped Ex-Anambra Deputy Governor Still Missing

Dr Chudi Nwike, the National Vice Chairman, South East of the Action Congress of Nigeria and one time Deputy Governor of Anambra State, who was abducted last Wednesday by gunmen in Anambra State, is yet to be released.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed in a statement last week appealed to the security agencies to do everything within their power to ensure the safe release of Dr. Nwike. ‘’We appeal to the security agencies to do everything within their power to ensure the safe release of Dr. Nwike, while assuring his family of our prayers and support at this very difficult time,’’ the statement said.

Alhaji Mohamed also disclosed that contact has been made with Dr Nwike’s younger brother by the kidnappers who have demanded an equivalent of N30 million in foreign currency.

Meanwhile, the Omambala Union, a socio-cultural organization of the clan championing the cause of the people of the Omambala area of Anambra state comprising Anambra East, Anambra West, Oyi and Ayamelum local government areas of Anambra state, has condemned the kidnap of their illustrious son and tasked the security agencies to ensure his immediate release, arrest and prosecution of the culprits.

The chairman of the union, Mr. Justice Paul Obidigwe (rtd) who briefed the press on the matter called on the Nigeria Police and in particular, the Anambra state commissioner of police, Mr. Balla Nassarawa to do everything possible to ensure that Nwike was released soonest and unhurt.
