At least 18 people died when two buses collided head-on Wednesday in an accident along the Abuja – Lokoja highway.
Nine others sustained serious injuries, according to a spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).
The two buses involved in the crash were a Marcopolo luxury bus registered XG. 413 FGG, belonging to GUO Group of Company and a J5 bus XA 726 NSR.
The accident happened along the Kwali-Gwagwalada road early on Wednesday, when a public bus lost control and rammed into another bus travelling in the opposite direction.
All but one of the 18 passengers of the first bus, including the driver, died on the spot.
A total of 96 people, including 10 children, were involved in the crash.
The injured were taken to the University of Abuja General Hospital, Gwagwalada.
The FRSC has urged Nigerian motorists to avoid unnecessary night journeys.
