Presidency denies Magu’s removal

The Presidency has denied that the Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu has been sacked.

New EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu

In a series of tweets on Saturday, Garba Shehu, the spokesman for President Muhammadu Buhari said: “We are reading reports that the EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu has been sacked.”

“No report has been made available to the Presidency by the Attorney General of the federation over the matter.”

“The report of his sack is therefore speculative and preemptive,” he tweeted.

The Senate had rejected the nomination of Magu by Buhari as the Chairman of the EFCC, citing “security reports” as the reason for the rejection.
